FOTONA LASER SCAR REMOVAL
Our unique Fotona laser contains two wavelengths of light. The Er:YAG and Nd:YAG lasers can be utilized individually for a broad range of powerful & precise treatments. The Fotona laser wavelengths can also be used synergistically to rejuvenate and tighten the skin without needles, sutures or injectables.
The laser treatment for scars uses the targeted power of the Erbium:YAG (Er:YAG) laser to resurface the skin and break down scar tissue thus stimulating collagen in the deeper layers to remodel the skin and reduce the appearance of the scar.
ANATOMY OF A SCAR
A scar is a mark left on the skin after a wound is healed. The new tissue formed is made of dense, fibrous connective tissue that does not allow blood vessels to infiltrate leading to a whiter discoloration in the skin. As the new connective tissue forms the scar, it also pulls the surface of the skin down leaving an uneven skin texture on the surface.
GOAL OF SCAR REMOVAL
The goal of scar removal is to break down the hard connective tissue allowing new collagen to form and allowing new blood vessels to fill in returning the skin to its original color and texture. If a scar is raised, that portion of the scar will have to me flattened down to the original level of the skin; whereas indented scars require collagen formation from the underlying surface to push the skin back up to its neutral position.
ACNE SCAR LASER TREATMENT
The Fotona laser offers a truly comprehensive solution to treating acne. Using both wavelengths of light we can target active acne breakouts with the Nd:YAG whose light penetrates safely into skin targeting the overactive glands and reducing acne inflammation.
The improvement of acne scars is done with the Er:YAG wavelength to offer gentle skin resurfacing and vaporization of scar tissue which in turn stimulates new collagen production. Unlike chemical peels and microdermabrasion, Fotona’s acne scar laser skin resurfacing allows for more control over the depth of penetration. Acne scar laser treatment is a fast, safe, and simple procedure.
MICRONEEDLING FOR ACNE SCARS
Acne scars are traditionally difficult to treat especially the deeper scars termed, ice pick scars. Although many patients have undergone strong laser treatments to help improve the skin texture in the past, recent studies show microneedling to be equal or better than laser alone. Microneedling also requires less downtime than other more invasive lasers. At VIKARA, we get amazing results by treating acne scars using a combination approach with the Fotona laser or radiofrequency followed by microneedling. This combination treats the acne scars at different depths helping to reduce the size of the scars while stimulating new collagen to improve the overall skin texture.
