ROSACEA: CAUSES, TREATMENT AND HOME CARE
Redness and flushing of the skin are common symptoms of rosacea. This visible redness can cause patients to become self-conscious or embarrassed. Although rosacea is a complicated inflammatory skin disorder, there are treatments and regimens that have been shown to improve this condition. At VIKARA, we take a holistic approach to rosacea treatment and educate you on how to treat the condition from the inside out.
Rosacea on the face is a complex inflammatory condition most often made visible in the central face, cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. This often results in facial flushing, stinging, pain, and burning sensations. There are many factors that can lead to rosacea including:
Genetic predisposing factors: irritable bowel syndrome, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurological disorders
Rosacea Triggers: UV, heat, stress, hot or spicy foods and beverages
Immunity disorders, and
With so many factors leading to rosacea, a holistic treatment approach is the only way to predictably improve the signs and symptoms. Although there is no cure for rosacea, a customized treatment plan can significantly reduce the visible signs.
Our rosacea treatment protocol starts with education. Patient compliance with skin care and avoidance of habits that trigger rosacea are imperative for successful treatment. Patients who cannot incorporate proper skin care or avoid known triggers are not good candidates for rosacea treatment.
In-office treatment- our combination approach to treat rosacea has been well-documented in the literature to be an effective treatment by targeting rosacea from different angles
Step 1: Fotona Nd:YAG laser treatment- this particular wavelength of light specifically targets vascular lesions and can be used non-invasively to shrink the blood vessels on the surface and diminish the redness. This painless treatment targets the small blood vessels which absorb the laser energy, shrink and dissipate.
Step 2: Botox or Dysport treatment- these products are categorized as neuromodulators and have been clinically shown to improve the symptoms of rosacea by targeting the neuropeptides that are triggered by psychological and physical stress, heat, alcohol, or spicy foods.
Rosacea Skin Care- We recommend gentle cleansing using Doctor Babor's Hy-ol cleanser with phytoactive sensitive, followed by the Rx Repair Calming Serum and Calming Rx Soothing Cream + SPF 30+ (for am use).
BEST ROSACEA TREATMENT
As stated above, the best rosacea treatment requires both in-office and home care treatments. Successful treatments cannot be achieved without the patient's compliance. Together we can help you address the visible signs of rosacea and reduce future flareups so that you may feel confident in the skin you're in.
