What is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a cosmetic procedure that is minimally invasive for your skin. Our esthetician uses a special instrument to safely shave away the top layers of your skin.

Dermaplaning is a great treatment to reduce the appearance of acne scars or other textural skin issues by unmasking fresh new skin below. Although your skin looks younger; dermaplaning does not stop the aging process.  This procedure can also be used to remove the peach fuzz that is often hard to remove with lasers.

Dermaplaning vs. microdermabrasion

Dermaplaning, and microdermabrasion are both considered skin resurfacing procedures. Each procedure uses different tools and removes skin differently. Dermaplaning uses a scalpel or razor to remove surface skin. Microdermabrasion uses an exfoliating tip that smooths and sands your skin unveiling fresh new skin underneath.

What skin conditions does dermaplaning treat?

You may consider dermaplaning if you have skin concerns such as:

  • Acne scars.

  • Dull or dry skin

  • Peach fuzz

  • Sun-damaged skin

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

Who shouldn’t have dermaplaning?

You should not dermaplane over any of the following conditions:

  • Active acne

  • Burns

  • Eczema

  • Elevated skin growth (moles, skin tags)

  • Psoriasis

  • Rashes

  • Shingles

Dermaplaning post treatment care:

The dermaplaning procedure may cause your skin to be slightly red, and tender.  Our esthetician will recommend a calming repair cream to help restore your skin's vitality and allow it to naturally glow.

  • Keep your skin well hydrated day and night

  • Drink plenty of fluids to allow you skin to recover

  • Avoid scratching which can lead to scarring

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and apply SPF 30+ during the day

How often can you dermaplane your skin?

For maximum results, multiple dermaplaning procedures can be prescribed to achieve their desired results. However, we recommend allowing your skin to heal completely between treatments.  Our skin care specialists can recommend the best treatment frequency for you to meet your beauty goals.
